I just realised I'm yet to mention on here about how I finally got a job!
If you have my Facebook then you can read this from one of my notes on my profile - if not then here it is, cut straight from the corresponding note:
30/04/2009 - the day I finally got a job...
...and yet the day started out like it was going to be one of those SOS (Same Old Sh...) days...
No buses turned up, and it was coming up to half past 8...no way was I going to get into town within half an hour, regardless of the traffic! And this woman who was waiting at the bus stop with her son was getting fed up - turns out telling her how crappy I was feeling for going to miss a job interview I felt good about was the best decision I'd made in months! Because she then decided to give up waiting for the bus, drop her son off to school in the car...and then volunteered to drop me off in town!
I seriously owe her petrol money if not more!
Despite the traffic, I got to the building I was meant to go for spot on 9am, when I was expected there! The first part was a maths test, where the guy next to me had a fairly confident state of mind and started rushing through his questions as if he knew what he was doing. Yet as I was doing mine, and very briefly caught sight of a couple of his answers (bearing in mind especially when I double check my maths, I'm confident about my answers), I was stunned to see him write very different answers to mine...I honestly thought he'd have gotten further than the maths test at least!
So of course, of the 14 of us that sat the initial test, only 8 made it to the mock telephone call exam (taking calls from fake customers/staff members), and I handled mine exceptionally well, mostly from the experience I'd picked up from my last job back in Nottingham!
And eventually, the final 1 on 1 interview came and went - I just had to use events in my (working) life that would link to the questions asked to me (eg describe a difficult situation you had to deal with between yourself and a difficult customer).
I left the building just before 1pm...and about an hour later I got the call...the call confirming that I was successful! And the best bit? I was later told by the recruiter who had found me the job vacancy that out of the 8 people who sat the phone call exam, I was the only one who passed it!!! Holy f***!
Eight days in, training all-but completed, I'm about to start working with a coach before being allowed to take proper customer calls...the very longest that takes is two weeks after teaming up with the coach!
It's disappointing news in the Mixed Doubles Badminton because Robertson and Emms are out but WHAT a start in the Cycling; Bradley Wiggins and co. raking up a world record in the qualifiers - GOLD ALL THE WAY!
